Lumbar spinal stenosis

When the diameter of the canal that passes through the center of the vertebral column is reduced in the lumbar region, it creates a compression on the nerves that pass through the interior.

The surgical technique consists of opening this canal from the behind.

LAMINECTOMY

This sole procedure can suffice. However, if the liberation of the region is important, it can be completed by blocking the vertebral column at the opened area using screws and bars in order to avoid pain in the lower part of the spine.

LUMBAR ARTHRODESIS

THE COFLEX

When the compression is limited, the lumbar canal can be minimally liberated without completely opening the back of vertebral column. A dynamic implant can then be inserted, which limits the mobility of the region as well as the pain at the opening of the canal without blocking it. The Colfex is a shock-absorber inserted between the two vertebrae from behind. This sole procedure can suffice. However, if the liberation of the region is important, it can be completed by blocking the vertebral column at the opened area using screws and bars in order to avoid pain in the lower part of the spine.
